Well-packed corn silage is usually around 650–800 kg/m³ as fed. Measure the height at several points across the face and use the average.

Rule of thumb: remove at least 15 cm/day in cool weather and at least 30 cm/day in warm weather to limit heating and aerobic spoilage at the face.
